The Illinois riverboat casino industry contributes greatly to Illinois' economic health and prosperity.

Since 1990, the riverboat casinos have generated over $6 billion in tax revenues for the state and local communities. In 2005 alone, the State of Illinois and local communities realized nearly $750 million dollars from riverboat gambling tax revenues, nearly $630 million of which went to fund education.

The riverboat casino industry has also brought opportunities to individual Illinois citizens. In 2005 casinos provided over $295 million in annual payroll and benefits to nearly 8,600 employees.

In addition to tax revenues and capital investments, Illinois casinos also donated thousands of hours and millions of dollars to charitable organizations. In 2005, Illinois' casinos committed more than $24.6 million in contributions to charities and civic projects in every Illinois county.
